McKenna Farms
Therapy Services, Inc.
was founded in 2001 and is directed by Jessica
Moore, PTA (Executive Director and Program
Director).
MFTS is a 501(c)3
non-profit organization based in Dallas,
Georgia under
the guidelines of the National Organization,
NARHA (The North American Riding for the
Handicapped Association).
MFTS is dedicated
to improving the quality of life of special
needs individuals benefiting from Physical,
Occupational, and Speech Therapy.
MFTS began with
10 children, one physical therapist, 5
volunteers, and two horses in 2001. Since then
MFTS has expanded into three counties
(Paulding, Cobb and Bartow). As
hippotherapy began to grow, additional
therapists were hired to accommodate the
waiting lists. MFTS is a local resource
for the areas special needs individuals.
Presently, MFTS
serves 200 children and adults, staffs 13
therapists, has a steady base of approximately
40 volunteers, and maintains 10 horses. All
this is driving the need to establish its own
facility. As of April 2005 the existing
waiting list is over 60 children.
Objective:
To build a
Therapeutic Center and a covered riding arena
which will protect the clients, therapists,
volunteers and the horses from the sun and
rain but will also eliminate the need to
cancel sessions due to the weather.
In addition, we
would like to bring our aquatic program
together with our Hippotherapy Program.
The volunteers'
enthusiasm, perseverance, and skills assist
the clients in achieving their objectives. |
